The short explanation of this alert was:
Victory! On March 16 the Senate narrowly passed a budget proposal to significantly curtail spending cuts called for by the Bush Administration. Though not perfect, the Senate's decision to include additional discretionary spending shows that Congress increasingly understands the consequences its choices have on America’s children.

Call your Represenative! Your message: “Please tell Representative _________ to oppose any budget resolution that will force harmful cuts in health care, child care, child welfare, nutrition, housing, and other services for vulnerable children and families. It is important that the total funding for discretionary programs in the budget resolution is at an adequate level as to not force cuts to vital services. Please also vote against tax breaks that take funds away from needed services and deepen the deficit.” (Thanks again to the American Friends Service Committee for providing the number and to several generous organizations who have shared in the cost.)
